Men and Women and the Creation Order, Part 2

Does the creation order for men and women only apply to the spheres of family and church, or does it apply to all of life -- including the civil realm? This article is part 2 of a 3-part series entitled "Men and Women and the Creation Order" by Pastor William Einwechter, wherein he continues his analysis by breaking down the Genesis account of the creation of man and woman, as well as the results of the curse on men and women's roles.

The Reformed Christian Legacy of Dominion

For Calvin and the Reformed Christians, the metaphor of planting vineyards was associated with the planting of families abroad unto the ends of the earth. This was connected to their view of dominion which presupposed private property rights -- in direct opposition to the Roman Catholic view of conquest and the Divine Right of Kings. And it was in the defense of these convictions that compelled many colonial Americans to resist the growing centralization of the British regime at the time of the War for Independence.

The Calvin Quincentenary and American Liberty

On July 10, six days after our own Independence Day, the world will celebrate the birthday of John Calvin, the man most responsible for our American system of liberty. As we approach this important date, we would do well to note the words of Harvard historian George Bancroft: "He who will not honor the memory and respect the influence of Calvin knows but little of the origin of American liberty."

The Cultural Impact of John Calvin and Charles Darwin on Western Civilization

If we were to reflect back on the history of western civilization, and the lives of the many men who affected it, we would notice two men that stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of their generational impact, and the legacy they have left to their children and grandchildren. Although separated by more than 300 years, these two men could arguably be considered the most influential in all of history.

The Stream of Liberty from Calvin to the Founders

Our founders showed incredible resolve in taking their fight for liberty against Britain, the most formidable military force of their day. Where did they get their resolve -- their principles of liberty? In tracing the roots, we learn this: From John Calvin's indelible writings on civil government through the Puritans who carried his standard in England, the literary path of liberty had been paved for over two hundred years.
